Start with orientation, safety and the department’s qualification path. Prior experience is welcome, not required.
Straight answers
No. Most members start without fire-service experience. The department provides an orientation, required training and supervised experience.
Members attend Thursday training and respond when available. A realistic first-year expectation is several hours most weeks, plus initial coursework.
Cedar Ridge provides required department training and protective equipment. Some travel or optional course expenses may require advance approval.
No. Operational assignments depend on training, qualification, safety and your role. Support, logistics, public education and administrative roles matter too.
Operational members must be 18. The department’s supervised junior program accepts ages 16–17 with parent or guardian permission.
A recruitment volunteer contacts you, answers questions and offers a station visit. A formal application and department screening come later if you choose to proceed.
